Christian Ethos
Westhead Lathom St James’ CE Primary School really is the heartbeat of the local community. We are a smaller than average, semi-rural school with strong links with the local church - St James’ in Westhead – as well as the wider community. As a church school, our Christian values of Wisdom, Dignity, Hope and Community are central to everything we do and the clergy regularly visit school to join us in our collective worship.
The caring, family ethos at St James’ ensures that all children feel a sense of belonging and security. This can be seen as you walk around school and are greeted by our wonderful children. Behaviour at St James’ is exemplary and often complimented when we take our pupils on visits out of school.
Our pupils regularly take an active role in collective worship and our Vision Ambassadors, Ethos Group and Worship Warriors all help to live out our Christian Values day-to-day, serving as excellent role models to their peers.
Our values of Wisdom, Dignity, Hope and Community are threaded throughout our curriculum and contribute to the spiritual development of all of our pupils. In addition, these values are explored through themed collective worship both as a whole school and in class.
Our RE curriculum is excellent and all teachers promote not only the school's values during these lessons but a wider understanding of Christian concepts and regularly refer to the 'Big Story' so that pupils gain an understanding of these concepts as well as their chronology.
