We offer a broad and balanced curriculum that is brought alive through learning skills actively. Learning is relevant to children’s lives and real in relation to the world. Learning is matched to ability. We support and extend children’s learning through differentiated planning. Some children need more time or help whilst others may even be accelerated into the next year group. We believe that generally, the tallest towers have the broadest bases and we want our pupils to go as high as they can.

Learners for life are well-balanced.  We promote positive physical health and mental well-being in lessons and through our many extra-curricular activities.  In addition, staff take time between lessons to guide and support children when they are having troubled times. These life skills are at the core of our purpose and are the glue that sticks our broad and balanced curriculum together.

As each child’s abilities are valued and channelled, their self belief and self-confidence grows. Every child is valued for the person they are and for the contribution they make to St. James’ School. In a small school every child has to take part in so many events. They will be on the stage and in the sporting teams. There’s nowhere to hide!

Of course, the safeguarding of children is of paramount importance. Child protection has the highest priority. Staff have DBS clearance. St James’ site is secure. Equipment is well-maintained.

The vast majority of pupils move onto Ormskirk School with some children moving to Burscough Priory Science College, St. Bedes or Scarisbrick Hall School.

We hope that you will visit our school to sample the warm and welcoming environment for yourself.

Miss H Clark
