Art & Design

Curriculum Overview

Our pupils use a variety of media, material and techniques including crayons, paint, fabric, clay, mod-roc, batik, collage and printing. Visual perception is developed by encouraging children to describe and discuss what they observe. Lines, colours, patterns, shape, scale, space, form and texture are all important aspects of perception. Children produce and evaluate their own work. Each year the detailed study of at least one major artist is undertaken in each class. At Key Stage 2 children keep sketchbooks to further develop their drawing/sketching skills.

In design, our pupils learn the skills of investigation, organisation and planning, designing and making, observing and recording, presentation and appraising. Technology equipment gives children the opportunity to develop problem-solving skills and to find practical solutions to tasks making use of materials, tools, structures and mechanisms.
